Lose your feathers with Spades GT’s newest album ‘United’

Cluck-cluck, your favourite farm-fresh rubber chicken rock critic is back, pecking out my thoughts on Spades GT’s brand-spankin’’ new album, “United”! Let’s ruffle some feathers!

Spades GT is back with their sophomore release, United. It’s not a huge departure from their debut, Sewer City Radio – they haven’t flown the coop! – but there are some tasty differences. I may have mentioned previously that their sound was similar to that of Motorhead, Anvil and even Ramones.

This is a band that is working on fine-tuning their personal stamp on heavy music. It is a very challenging task today, with numerous emerging genres constantly appearing. It’s enough to lose your feathers over.

Being the rocking chick I am, this new record went and cut a straighter line of hard rock and metal. They have some real solid nuts and bolts songs that just rock your face off. Then, they spice things up with moments of speed metal, thrash metal and power metal.

Anthem is a raw classic metal that really gets your fists pumping immediately. I feel a Judas Priest vibe. And you should when you speak of Anthems and metal.

We then become united by the second track and this blend of Punk and metal will win both side of heavy music.

The themes of this album seem to come from a more human point of view with topics of Anti-war songs like “Games for Two”, and personal songs like, “Demons” and Filthy Lies”.

Spades GT really like to party hard as well, so when you are out seeing them live, make sure request their song, “Wrecked” as you down your tenth beer. This one will get you to headbang until you lose all your feathers!

Wrapping Up

The band finishes strong with the last two songs. “Strong” has a solid opener that turns into a wild and sloppy anthem. It is one of their heaviest songs in their repertoire. They continue this heaviness with a Power Metal song called “Die on our feet”. This is a glorious song that shares a similar energy to the band Starovarius.

Overall, United is a real wing-flapper of an album! It’s solid, varied, and packed with fist-pumping, beer-chugging, feather-losing energy. I’d definitely lay a perfectly boiled egg right here to seal my approval!
