OddsFiche
I love it when my expectations are succeeded. I was invited out by the band OddsFiche to do a little story about them. In my mind, they were going to be a mediocre cover band doing another bad cover of “Sweet Child of mine”. There I was walking through a crowd of people enjoying the final couple of hours at the Taste of Lawrence, looking for the stage. I found it about 5 minutes before the band hit the stage at 6:30.
The band just jumped right in, and on the very first note, I knew this was going to be a different kind of show. They were not a cover band, and their sound came out and grabbed you by your head and shook it around right from the start. This band is not here to kid around.
They kicked their show with all thrusters on full BLAST! – See what I did there? Their heavy sound blended bands like Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and Aerosmith all rolled into one, and they didn’t sing one note. You see this is an all-instrumental band, which rocks the space ways like, the Silver Surfer.
They are a band that like to explore their sound more and doesn’t like to complicate it with lyrics. By the second tune, they kept you rocking hard and at the same time gave you a flight of fancy.
I was really surprised that the Taste of Lawrence got edgy with this band, since this was mainly a family crowd and the audience is made up of Middle Eastern and Asian folk. That did not stop the people from getting a closer view of what was happening up on that stage. It is a strange blend of energies that work.
I guess OddsFiche just proved that Scarborough can really Rock!
There were two stand out moments this day. The first was when the lead guitarist decided to pull a Jimmy Page and grab a bow and play psychedelic ramblings on his guitar. This was a good moment for these gummies to truly kick in. The band not only rock hard but they can really add those space oddity moments that have everyone floating above the stage.
The second moment was when a friend was walking by the stage, and they pulled out the only cover song of the day. They played the Hamilton Punk song, “Disgusteen”, by Teenage Head.
After an hour and a half of amazing instrumental music, OddsFiche finished the Taste of Lawrence with a tune called “Galaxy Noir”.
