Headliner Psyclon Nine stuck at border, unable to play the Cave
I was all geared up to go and see some dark gothic industrial music by the band Psyclon Nine, but I got rerouted that evening. I walked into the Cave, and the people at the door informed me the opening act was going on at 10 pm. So, I went to The Tranzac down the street to kill some time.
When I returned at 10pm, the Toronto-based band Eye Steal was just getting on and began to produce their sick dark sounds. They are a duo that is dripping with that back-alley grime. This band consists of a Keyboardist and a bass player keeping the lo-fi sounds down to a shrouded depression.
They did ask the big question of “What is Life”? Their explanation seemed to come from a place of isolation. The fact that the stage was backlit the entire time, gave you the creeps that you were dealing with the vermin that scouts the streets at night.
Some of the low rumblings of their instruments felt like they were trying to raise worms from the dead and have them infest your nightmares.
During their set they let the audience know that the band Psyclon Nine got stuck at the border and could not make it that night and that they were the headliner. Headliner? It seemed that when I walked over to the Tranzac, I missed the other band called Antania. That really sucked because I was really looking forward to seeing this visually disturbing band. They have these masks and outfits that really sell the whole Dark-core sound.
Eye Steal did their final song that felt like the march of the dreaded horde into the industrial drums of placid toxicity.
I did really like this band, but was really bummed out that I missed two bands that would have kicked my ass. Well, I will just wait until next time and have much more to say.
