Indie Night in Canada

Indie Night

Toronto is a city that has a very healthy Indie scene. There are plenty of places that have their own version of Indie night. With the Linsmore Tavern it happens every Tuesday starting at 8pm.It is a great program run by a woman named Mary- Elizabeth Gilbert. She has been doing this for about 10 years and working with the Linsmore to set up an evening for bands looking to gather new followers and a place to develop your stage chops. If you would like a spot on Indie night contact Mary at- marymegamusictoronto@gmail.com

Carmen Toth

Carmen Toth opened the night with an acoustic set of music. She started the night singing about the frustrations of living in a big city. It is a song of survival in Toronto or any big city where you live. She did bring us back to the 80’s with the bangles hit- Manic Monday.

Carmen played a lot of her new material from her latest release “Fix the World”. Here is a link so you can listen to her music for yourself.

Carmen Toth Live:

Lon Chaney Movie

The Main course came early as Lon Chaney Movie got up next to debut their brand new release called- “Angels Vs Empires”.

The band came out rough and ready, just like a grease monkey driving away in a beat up old pickup truck, driving like he needs to get home right now!

By the second number it started off sounding like the Beatles- I got a feeling. Then it slipped into another disheveled rock song that kept things off balance.

I couldn’t help but enjoy Gary’s foot pedals. These prehistoric pedals really helped shaped the band’s sound. These are not your nice and clean pedals. These things grind and gnaw out choppy and fuzzy sounds that transport you back to your love of Garage Rock.

Think of driving down a ski slope with moguls and you are kicking those things away in your Outback Jeep. That is the ride these guys bring you on.

The Linsmore was very busy for a Tuesday night. It just goes to show you, that people are still hungry to hear new music, which is why I love going to CD release parties.

The name fits their sound as well. Their music is heavy and slightly dark. They will throw in a quick surprise to keep you on your toes, just like an old B&W horror movie.

Lon Chaney Movie:

Flight Risk

After people picked up the new CD, they stuck around for Flight Risk. I will let you in on a secret. If you are a fan of Boneyard, Flight Risk has members on Boneyard in this band. This is a band on a Rock and Roll mission. They want to melt your face, they want you rocking hard and crashing throughout the evening. This is why you want to show up at a Flight Risk show.

Like, Lon Chaney Movie, this band come on strong like Bull and tears through your china shop! Not only can they rock hard, but they do have some great Rock moves that will keep you locked in as you slide off the runway.

The band spoke about the troubles in the world and then explained it to us with reggae rock. And here I am without my dreadlocks or my buddy Cliff the spliff.

The good news for you, when you decide to see this band there is no risk when you want to enjoy a special high and a ticket to board Flight Risk!
