Being such a young bird, I was a little overwhelmed by the song topics. Steve seems to save up enough stories to unveil a multitude of emotional topics. It is all in the title of his sophomore release.
With thirteen distinct tracks, Steve takes you on an emotional journey around your world.
He starts off with his song- “Away” It is an atmospheric song with a double meaning. It is a desperate promise for love, while looking for an escape.
He changes his tone quickly with the dark, deep and delicious blues tune that breathes it hot breath near your weak points. “Angels Singing” sound like my handlers when they come out and sing while they feed me.
We get to the peaceful part of his peaceful part of the CD.” Peace Inside”, simply is an open roadmap to seek out a life of happiness and solace.
Steve then spins you right around and takes you on a surfing safari with this playful number that is fun and sexy. “Be my loving girl”, would be one of the loving songs on this recording.
Steve Mahabir creates thoughtful and provocative pop songs for people who enjoy songs with discreet but attentive details. His views on the human condition are very relevant as he dives into the many different aspects of our experiences.
His style is similar to that of, The Waterboys, Tom Petty and Lou Reed.
The War part of this recording can be heard on his instrumental- “War Machine Alley”. His hated comes through on his song- “What were you thinking”?
Juno Award nominee Mahabir is joined by a powerhouse of Canadian talent on the album, including John Borra (bass) and Blue Rodeo’s Michael Boguski (keyboards) and Glenn Milchem (drums).
