Thunderor Bleeds for it!

I was in the position to ask Thunderor a few questions about their upcoming show and I knew this band has an old way of creating that classic Metal sound. I quickly came up with a few questions so I could help promote this show happening at the garrison on April 23rd.

Enjoy this little interview then go and grab your tickets for next week. Classic Metal fans you are in for a real treat!

When did you form?

We formed in 2020. I had the initial idea about a year before, but it really became real when Jonny Nesta got on board, and we started writing.

You chose to honour the early 80s metal sound. What made you decide on this sound?

We love the 80s sounds. Inevitably, we figured the sound of the band would go in that direction, and we marketed the band that way also, since we as players were already known in the NWOTHM scene. But it’s really evolving from that, especially with this new album, it’s leaning more towards an arena rock thing now, sometimes with a punk edge, some rock opera. It’s an interesting thing where the music leads you when you start writing.

I think I read you have a connection with Skull Fist. What is that connection?

Yeah myself and Jonny both played in Skull Fist together for like 10 years, got to tour the world. I think we play really well together because of that time put in.

Being a metal drummer and a singer, how difficult is that and how does that affect the way you play drums?

It can be challenging for sure. Especially on some of the faster tunes, where the drumming is more demanding, and making sure I have enough breath to sing all of the lines haha. But it’s really feeling natural now, for the most part I think I’ve found the groove for doing both.

What are your top 5 Metal influences?

Priest, Avantasia, Manowar, Turisas, Skull Fist

I read you created a Metal opera. That is a bold move for a young band. What made you decide this?

Yeah, it’s hard to believe we actually pulled it off, haha. I had this radical idea to do a musical. I was listening to a lot of Meat Loaf, and things just unfolded from there. I started working on a story and script, with the songs from the new album as the soundtrack. I was definitely over my head, but I got lucky and was offered a slot at the Toronto Fringe Festival in 2025 to present the musical there. So at that point, it became real for me. I recruited a whole cast and creative team, and we did a 5-show run, even had a couple sold-out shows, and it was really great.

Fire It Up contained all the classic sounds of the 80s. What can we expect from your new album?

There are more synths, haha. But yeah, it’s that big production sound again, in a slightly new direction. We’re really ‘breaking the mold’ stylistically with this one, as an early review from Spain put it, and I agree. A lot of big hook choruses, more focus on lyrics. The call to adventure feeling is the same, just with a bit more time passed, a bit more blood, sweat, and tears spent, hence the title Bleed For It.

I hope you enjoyed my little interview. It is time to enrich your life with those early 80’s metal sounds. The first band on is our very own AMMO followed by Thunderor. The headliners are the beautiful and deadly Burning Witches that our out to eat your soul!
