Ryder- Menagerie

In the world of Hard Rock, Ryder is still waving that flag from the 1980’s. They are a new band that loves the retro sound of the hard rocking 80’s decade. This is the kind of stuff that just gets my little feathers flapping!

From the opening song, “One eye open”, it starts off like early Pink Floyd with the song, “Set the controls for the heart of the sun”, but quickly turns hard and solid.

“Queen Viper’s Kiss”- is hard and slithery and will infect you instantly.

I remember breaking out of my shell with this style of music. Ryder really cranks up your engines in “Southbound”. It is a song purely committed to driving down a highway like a demon processed or a hopped-up rooster on cow corn.

If you were too young to live through the 80’s then Ryder is bringing it to your front door. It can pound and kick serious butt while carrying the torch from a glorious period in time.

The singers’ raspy vocals provide that strength and power needed to keep the entire sound strong. You could hear moments of Motley Crue, Whitesnake mixed with the southern edge of Molly Hatchet. It is like the LA scene telling Alabama they have a purdy mouth. So why not yell that while rocking out to all these original songs.

The song, “Heart of Stone” stands out for its emotional content. The search for emotional freedom is very clear with its message.

This style of organizing songs is very much like the era that brought hard rockers like Scorpions and Lynyrd Skynyrd, where the songs have a great driving force but also contain more reflective songs to keep you grounded. These are the classic themes of youth gone wild trying out all the experiences of living on the edge mixed with reflective moments that carry strong lessons.

As I was listening to all 10 new songs, I felt like the cock of the walk. I grabbed onto this path of new experiences and wanted to live all of them out. That is what a good Rock and Roll album can do for you. I am a rocking chick with a strong new attitude, so get out of my way!
