I came across this one-day festival that was happening at Primal Note Studio. I loved the title of this festival. It is Not Your Dad Fest. So, I had to check it out. Even though I am a Dad, this festival would have not seen too middle-aged men rocking out to this hazy crazy line up.
Planet 27
This rough and ready band came out and was smoking like a pure stoner looking for loose leaves left around the kitchen, just to roll them up and smoke it at 4am in the morning.
In fact, the singer’s vocals sounded like he had been smoking all day long. This is a heavy underground indie band that brings psychedelia to a new level.
This is pure basement rock that wants a private place to experiment with a new direction. Maybe that is why they chose Primal Note Studio, because of their rehearsal rooms.

Elastic Ass
This is an electronic nightmare that could even raise Nash the Slash from his grave.
He brought on a spastic robot dance to have a malfunction on stage. This could have been the interpretive dance of the failings of Elon Musk as he falls through his own matrix.
His music is diverse yet feels preyed upon. At one point he created a theme where you felt you were in an intergalactic chase scene in an underground sewer.
The dancer who created these succubus moves is Vicky Yeung and you can find her on Instagram at www.instgram.com/flyingmonkeyswing/

Bank Heist
With a song called “Devil’s Night” you should expect strange things from this dope band. In fact, it was Sean from this band that put everything together. So, if you want to be a part of future festivals, he is the one to contact.
This band seems to get their inspiration from past acid trips and converts them into Punk Philosophy. So, the question is, “What does this all mean”?
The band creates some pretty cool riffs while the singer sounds like a guy dying in a desert while trying to figure out where his next hit is coming from.

Jody and the Friendzone
This is a band willing to try out many different sounds. It started out with a loud version of 1950’s pop music and then morphed into a 70’s rock band. Just picture the riff “Walk this way” mixed with an unhealthy Jimmy Page on a double neck looking for some weird notes.
After we learned that camping is terrifying, we danced a metaphysical jig just to realize it was all just a bad dream. I love that this band is trying to stretch their limits as far as possible.
At one point I could hear the guitar just going off in a direction away from where it should be going. Is this sloppiness or sheer genius? You just have to go see this band live and judge for yourself.

These Evil Eyes
Well, if it is weird that you want, you came to the right festival. Three of the four members were simply a big eyeball playing on stage. The creep factor was sitting comfortably as you became hypnotized by their stare.
The lead singer took over the stage and cranked out a grunge-like doom metal reverie. The next song slipped into a hoedown. The only way I could describe this new sound was like listening to Black Sabbath steering a Viking ship through a treacherous storm.
Next, they decided to get down and dirty and sang a stripper-like song about Honey Boo-Boo. This seemed to attract a couple of converted women to praise the guitar player by swaying in a mesmerized state. This eventually created an invitation for other women to join into this frayed fray. This show had been going since about 5pm and it was going past midnight and there were two more acts to go up. Unfortunately, I had to leave to get up early the next day, but I will make more time to see the next installment of “Not your Dad Fest”, next time.
