Masaru is an Avante -Garde band that takes their time to explore new frontiers. This is how I started my 2025. I walked in with an open mind and a clean slate to discover new music in our city.
Opening with the sound of a distant voice making its way through a forest, this vibe reminded me of the band Mannheim Steamroller. The mood is a constant shift that seems to slowly change into an endless array of floating objects through a quiet atmosphere. This kind of metaphysical travel is first class all the way.
Once they transversed enough time and space Masaru slipped into a pre- Dark side of the Moon Pink Floyd and brought along happy sounding creatures that held our hand. This experience is very pleasant and modest and gentle for a fragile mind.
About 30 minutes into this performance a mandolin player walked in and set up his instrument and began to expand on the already ample sound. Within a few minutes of that moment another guitar player walked into the room and almost had to stand outside while he plugged his guitar in and squeeze into his tiny space.
The seven musicians continued their ever-changing river of sounds until they felt they could come in for a landing. The opening piece lasted for 45 minutes before they took a mental break to go out and have a smoke.
When they returned to traverse a new path, they decided to guide us on a psychedelic walk through the countryside. As you began to drift away, an alien awareness surrounded your essence, and it seems that you are being called away on universal business.
It felt as if we all as an audience needed to tend to our empyrean garden and the biting question was, “How much cosmic dust does it take to fill a Black Hole”?
Once you rolled around the sun and you were looking forward to your homecoming, you could hear the Jack Kerouac blues riding beside you. You were on the run, on the bottle, on top of old smoky…
Eventually, you ended up back inside the clock with its own agenda. Picture yourself in a waiting room with plenty of things happening and nothing going on. It simply was a glorious and happy landing. It was another 45 minutes well spent inside yourself.
IF you enjoyed my little story and understand what just happened, then I urge you to go out to the Tranzac the first Thursday of Every month at 9:30pm and have yourself a well-deserved vacation. The Band is Masaru, and they love cosmic vacationers just like you.
