Is that a confusing title or what! Let me explain, Queen on Street is a band from Thailand and they happen to play The Duke Live on Queen Street. Did that help? You need more?
There is a passionate music fan that lives here in Toronto named Ray Cheung and found this band from Thailand. He needed to share them with Canada, so he has them playing plenty of dates around the GTA for the next few weeks before they go home.
Ray met the Fiat (the guitarist and singer) and her father busking at Phuket Beach Bangla Street. He then asked them to come to Toronto and perform at our annual Youth Day which happened on July 21st.
Here are a few reasons you should check them out now!
The band consists of 4 young teenage girls that can actually play their instrument very well.
The lead singer and guitarist Fiat is 15 years old and already has the moves of a great Rock Star.
The Keyboardist, Mega is the youngest at 11 years old and has incredible bouncy energy that help keep the fun factor in the band.
The Bass player, Chertamp is 15 years old, and let us know that she really underestimated the Canadian winter and is really cold.
The Drummer, Kelly who is 14 didn’t speak because of her shy nature, but it didn’t show when she was pounding the crap out of her drums.
They started the show with the classic Hotel California. Being at the Duke, this is the kind of crowd that would love that song.
I was thrown when they went into Gary Moore’s “I’ve still got the blues for you” The guitar work was impeccable.
They continued their impressive musicianship by unloading other great songs we love like, Bon Jovi’s It’s my life, and two from Joan Jett.
After a few solid songs you forget these are very young women performing some of our favourite songs. Clearly this music spoke to them as well, as they did Sweet Child of mine, better than most cover bands here in Toronto.
The band even tried out some original material. They played three songs that went over very well with the audience. Maybe they will come back and tour with a brand-new album.
The moment they truly won over the crowd was when they did “Proud Mary” and got some nice audience participation. It was East meets West and the room was truly having fun together.
Near the end of their set, they played the huge hit “Unstoppable” which garnered the band over 9 million views on YouTube.
The band finished big by completely rocking out to “Smells like teen spirit” It seems appropriate that these teenage girls would finish off with such a great song. The Duke was not about to let them go, so they did come back for an encore. I am going to tease you and not tell you because you need to witness this for yourself.
So go out and meet Queen on Street live. I have posted the rest of their dates while they are here in Canada. If you go out and support them, you will be sending them a message to come back again. I can promise you; they will only get better.
Here is the schedule of the dates they have left. Let’s show them how much Toronto loves music!
