Let me just get this out of the way right away. Opening this evening in a room full of Spidermen and other costumed creeps, Modern Dandelion, didn’t get the memo. They forgot to dress up for the occasion. That was quickly forgotten once they began performing. They are a post punk pop band that sounds like they were transported from the really early 80’s.
The young crowd really enjoyed the fresh sound of this fun band. Being a tad bit older, I could hear some of the influences from my time period. Bands like Blondie, The Pretenders and other bands that made their way through CBGB’s back in the day.
Their overall sound was like a trashy rock band with Garth from Wayne’s World leading this band through moment of infectious pop song. It was so infectious; it was like giving yourself Mono over and over. Remember, these are young musicians who lived through Covid. They had a period of being isolated and are used to being alone.
Modern Dandelion is a band worth checking out because they really can channel good sounds from over 40 years ago and their open playful style will leave you in a good mood.

Jordan is making waves in the musical community these days. With his band Jordan.wav you will find a young and ambitious guitar player who wants to explore many musical realms.
He fronts a four-piece rock band that is out to explore different territories of music. The first song definitely comes from the blues side of music.
Then all I can say after that is, “Holy Mozzarella, Batman!” This guy can shred, but not in the style of a Joe Satriani or Steve Vai. His sound has a soulful edge to it, which gives it a softer edge but much more pleasing to an audience that doesn’t need their ears bleeding by the end of a set.
He doesn’t take his music too seriously as he explores friendlier sounds, then he shreds the crap out of it. He proved this with his last song. It is a large epic piece that sounds like an undiscovered track by Mahogany Rush. In fact, I will go farther and describe it like a mangled car crash while listen to Rock and Roll turned up to 11. He pushed this even further by creating a total doom punk ending that created a mosh pit for people with anxiety!
Don’t worry, they had costumes on and felt comfortable as they slammed one another while apologizing the entire time. I think I saw Spider-Man having a premature web shooter accident.

Speaking about accidents, this brings us to the main act, Mihalyistic Entities. They began their ritual with dead poetry welcoming everyone to the Freak Show. Yes, they added some philosophical poems and poets to the stage to set the bar in a very crooked manner. They had a cloaked monk and an old philosophy sage spewing words of wisdom to the pizza brained costumed anomalies. Yes, stuff like this does go on in Toronto. You got to check it out!
If that wasn’t enough for you, the poor monk got viciously sacrificed on stage and spilt blood all over the floor. If this worries you, don’t worry, he was brought back to life again. The place erupted into a free style dance like they were under the spell from a haunted mausoleum.
This art rock band switched gears and got funky with it with their progressive rock meets James Brown moment as the singer screamed 1234567 and the drummer did a great 7/8-time signature and eventually went into a killer drum solo.
This band does explore different consistent cosmic subsistence’s. They will try to go where no addled mind has gone before.
For example, their song “River” is a soulful winding path through a purple meadow of the semi-consciences while leaning back and cloud busting. Their other song, “Caves” explore an unknown journey into personal pathos and the poignancy of awakening with only owning a half-lit torch.
By the end of the evening, this all didn’t really matter because this was a Halloween party Mihalyistic style and the finished with a punk rock version of the Monster Mash. The lights came up and everybody woke from a terrible dream to leave the bar and look for the nearest pizza joint.
