Feura horses around at her Halloween Party!

Photos and story by Jojo

Punk Rock wormed its way into the Pilot, and they all dressed up for the occasion. Toronto’s  favourite Punk Woman named Feura decided to celebrate Halloween early at the Pilot. It seems punk people like to dress up for Halloween, or is this their everyday wear? It didn’t matter because this was going to be a fun party and I do love Halloween.

Here a few of the fun participants! –

Drag King

This party started off strong with King Freddie who calls himself the Drag King walked on stage in full make up and costume. He looked like a cross between Michael Jackson and Tim Curry from The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

When you start the night off with the Talking Head’s “Psycho Killer”, the crowd was full prepared to get in the groove of the evening. His wild way off dancing was mesmerizing and when he goes into his Zombie Stomp, the crowd’s reaction was fearsome.

He would make it back for round 2 just before the main act. His new look was dark and creepy as he danced to Bruno Mars and finished by creating a Black Parade that fill this tiny stadium!

Chasing Laika

This is an Indie band that simply wanted to have fun with the crowd. It was a bit of a rare moment when the room moved forward to be close to this band. I find a lot of the audiences stand back about 15 feet from the stage. WHY? I am still trying to figure that out.

Chasing Laika had a sense of being drool and amusing at the same time. Their pop music contains a sadness mixed with dark tones that allows you to attach yourself to those emotions without feeling out of place. After all we were all dressed in our freaky costumes. So this was a perfect place to feel that way.

There was one song that was slow and withered away at your soul. It felt as if you were trying desperately to keep your head above water. In the great spirit of the Halloween, they finished with a song about eating your lover alive.

Next Week’s Washing

The frivolity continued with the next band that got up on stage dressed up like Scooby Doo and Mystery Inc.  They opened their set with a modern Scooby Doo Theme. Personally I love the old theme from 1969. This band relied on some pretty heavy fuzz from their guitars to bring forth a sound that kept all our heads buzzing.

That fuzz did overshadow the vocals at the beginning, but once that balance was rectified, the band got us to hold hands because this is what sexy people do during a sexy song.

They were very excited to share a brand new song that was just released days before. It was a very interesting sound. It sounded like a small spaceship landing with tiny creatures entering our world and teaching us about their world in an alien language.

They finished their set with another new song. In my short time knowing this band, I noticed their new stuff sounded crisp and clean, compared to their fuzzier sounds from the beginning of the set.

Feura’s Halloween Special

This is one of the reasons I love about Feura. She comes out on stage with an attitude that says, you better rock out, or I will kick your ass. Well that got a mosh pit started right away. Just as we were getting in the zone, a biker chick walked out on stage and just started doing backup vocals. This is Tia Nova. She is good friends with Feura, but keep an eye on her because she is looking to take her spot in the sea of other women making their mark in Toronto.

That was the moment Feura went back for a costume change. She came back in a Nirvana T-shirt and began to turn this song into road apples. That made sense when you watch a horse walk out on stage and they bashed out a Nirvana song.

She disappeared again to come back in leather. Is this the punk rock version of Cher that we are witnessing? Is she softening? Well she did actually slow the next song down and it was a really cool and tender punk song. You don’t get those every day.

That didn’t last very long because Feura went on a pure punk rant about the condition of our world today. Her diatribe was about war, live music being attacked by AI. It was so inspirational that she had the whole room giving the middle finger to these problems we are now facing. That is when she released her song called- “Eat the Rich”.

Being the kind of rocker that I know she is, her song, “I’m the man” went over well as she wore a cowboy hat and began to dosy doe with her fans.  Check out our video- https://www.instagram.com/reel/DeUEWJzBBKp/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&obrf=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==&srtk=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

It soon turned into a full blown mosh pit where people were losing their phones and getting stepped on, nearly breaking their feet.

At the height of this fury, she climbed on top of the bar only to crowd surf her way back to the stage.

Fans got on stage to continue this party. They all high jacked the Pilot and stole the plane for a while right before the crash landing. Like that it was over and a roomful of freaks waited to personally Thanks, Feura for such a memorable night.
