Be still my baby beak, this is Blues band for the down and out club. This is the Why me, while you laugh club. This is Hounds of Thunder rolling their way into your beer-soaked soul.
This EP reminds me of a band like AC/DC. They have their sound and they can just lay it down in front of you. If you feel life is being tough on you, these slow, dark and moody songs are just the thing you need.
That is how we start. The first song is called-“Cold day in Hell” and my chicken skin can’t handle these cold blues. It feels like a ticking time bomb waiting for an explosion.
It is hard for me to walk around like a naked chicken with these slow, plodding songs that speak to you while you get polluted so you can forget your day. That is how I felt listening to- “Crying shame”. I was crying until the halfway point and then its infectious groove gave me chicken bumps.
What make these songs work so well is the gritty vocals. It just fits the sound of the band and gives the EP a fuller character.
I have to admit my rooster friend who is a real cock, truly enjoyed the song, “Tap dancing on my grave”. It is dark and moody for the down and out crowd who feel like they have been kicked around. It tends to feel like a melancholy gospel with a twist of humour near the end. At least we can get a chuckle from this juggernaut of barroom blues.
“What the Thunder said”, is like a rolling thunder of impending doom. It is slow and grimy as it drags you through the mud.
When I finally made it through this emotional minefield, the final song, “Whatever spirit haunts you”, finish this recording off well. It still invades my henhouse like an apparition. But somehow, it feels comforting.
If you want to hear these songs for yourself, just click this link and grab a beer, but please stay away from the wings.
