With a slice of a knife that resonates that moment in Psycho, you instantly recognize those dark thoughts that haunt you into a state of catatonia. The feeling of being alone and naked stares straight at you and you have to deal with those feelings again.

Being a little chicken, I am unsure of this territory I am now transfiguring. Will it be ugly and horrible before I see beauty again? This is the opening track- “Don’t have to”.

New Freaks under the old bedsheets is a great title for this new release from Cannibal Mukbang. This EP is a fever dream of lost insecurities that are finding you again. It is Metaphysical electric poetry. It is an experiment of depressive thoughts that keep your life stagnant.

The nest piece called “Bluffs” is a challenge of poetry that can come from any direction and uncovers your personal meaning. This will mean something different for each listener. I had nightmare that I was still in my little egg as laughing gnomes pushed me off the Scarborough bluffs. I didn’t know how I landed.

“Glass Teeth” is filled with, sadness, worry, beehive thoughts, overthinking, overthinking,overthinking,overthinking…..

Much like this past winter, Cold Morning is a freezing rainstorm with melancholy vapours seeping from the heaviness of our lumpy bed. Is it worth getting up and facing the day? When will it be time to open up the chrysalis to new possibilities again?

Even though this record is filled with a carton of some broken eggs, there is still plenty of room for growth to appear and it seems to sprout on the last song, “Suburban Houseplant”.

Do you ever have a moment when you feel face down in the dirt and an outreaching spirit lifts up your chin and asks you to take just one more step? This is the moment when you realize there may be something more in that one step.  If you know the band Spiritualized, this is a fair comparison to how they commune with their audience.

This is an EP filled with dark challenges and desperation, but it leaves you with a sense of hope. The eggs may be cracked but you can still make omelets from them.
