Theo Vandenhoff- Savior on the spilled blood

With his brand new record, Theo comes out of the starting gate sounding like a great throwback to the early 80’s synth moment of Toronto. I immediately could hear Blue Peter, Spoons and even Images in Vogue.

His voice perfectly fits this genre as he bounces his way through the opening song, “April Showers”. By the time you are revealing in the fine opening track, Theo slows things down a bit and paints a grey layer over the gloss and adds a fine matte goth finish that has you seeing through veiled thoughts.

“Wong Kar-Wai adds a new wave funk that could get you dancing on the dance floor like a diva.

Theo seems to have a great balance of taking sounds from over 40 years ago and keeping it fresh with modern sounds.

He even will throw in a tribute song with historic importance. “Portrait of Amalia Rodrigues” Is a serious marching tribute to the Queen of Fado. She is the bestselling artist in Portugal.

Theo has put together a wonderful mix of eclectic electric sounds that will set your thought to radiate from a time that refuses to fade away.

If you would like to meet this artist, he will be interviewed by Spin Class at the Dani Social House on May 10th starting at 6pm. There will be an interview with the artist and then a listening party for this album. This is such a great event to go out and actually meet these local artists.

The Dani House is located at 1237 Dundas St West.

This may be your new favourite spot to discover new music and make new friends.

If you can’t make it, you just have to click this link and listen to this record at home.
