Have you ever gone to the TD Union station Summerfest? It is going on right now in front of Union Station. It happens daily. There is one show at Noon and another show starting at 5:30. You can go for a cool lunch or a drink after work. That is a great way to wind down.
One of the highlights for me is seeing the Blackburn Brothers. Their style of Rock, Funk, Soul and Blues will satiate your musical appetite.
In fact, I think they took us on a mental holiday, and we didn’t even know it.
They took us to Beale Street in New Orleans and that was a fun place to visit.
This is a band that knows how to take care of business. Just jump on their vibes and you could find yourself at the Crossroads. They even got us singing “In the city”! Yes, this is a band that helps you forget about your rough day and brings the sunshine, even when their “Ain’t no Sunshine”.
I did discover that these brothers have a father who is now 85. That is remarkable enough, but Booby Blackburn is also a musician who started performing way back in 1955. Can you believe he is still performing to this day! I have to go see this guy. The brothers sang about him with the simply title- “Bobby’s Blues”.
I arrived right at 5:30 and had trouble finding a seat, The entire patio was filled with people waiting to leave the day behind them. There were people dancing in the aisles and singing along with the band. This is how a summer day should feel.
As we were nearing the end, they sang a song about moving on. Then they let us ride the rails with a song about a railroad line. It is fitting that they happened to be playing right at Union Station.
Don’t let summer pass you by without seeing a free show on Front Street. If you were at this show, I would love to read about your experience. Please comment below.
