Jerry Leger- Waves of Desire

Jerry Leger is a busy farmer, coming out with new music every year consistently for over two decades. His latest venture into the social interactions and heartfelt decision making is a very consistent record with a deep sense of understanding of the fragility of the human experience.

He doesn’t try to hide flawed moments. Jerry is open to reveal all the hidden moments of loneliness and feeling of despair in a poetic fashion.

The last few records that he has recorded, has improved with some techniques he has explored and has added a better rounded experience for the listener. The rawness is disappearing and it is being replaced with more integrity and a closer look at each and every note and how it is organized for full impact.

The album starts off with a feeling of being imprisoned and abandoned with Alcatraz. The mood quickly shifts to the light Psychedelic pop tune- “It’s so strange”. As a young chick, this is a golden egg for me. This song should be playing on some of the major radio stations. With the help of Susan Kocher on vocals, this should easily be a hit song.

If you do listen to Jerry’s songs for the deep and uncomfortable imagery of relationship going through some kind of turmoil, then you may want to listen to his songs- “You don’t have to stay long” and “We’re living in this world”. Just have a box of tissues next to you.

That is one of the great things about his style of writing. If you need to listen to sad songs to help process your emotions, this album has some choice topics to contemplate.

Stranded, is one of those songs that everybody has been at least once in their lifetime. I don’t know where this song takes place, but I remember being out west and just wanting to charter a plane to go home, knowing I had a 24 drive in front of me with people I wasn’t happy about. This is what happens when you are a bird that can’t fly, we feel very much stranded.

The one song that stood out for me was Willow Ave. It has a kind of Norman Rockwell energy to it, as Jerry describes his happy moments with his Father who took great walks around the Beach neighbourhood growing up.  It is a very sweet love letter to his childhood growing up.

By the time we reach the end of this album there are warm hugs and a feeling of reconciliation again. Now you can lay your head on some straw to rest and breathe a little easier.

Overall, this is one of the best albums Jerry and his band have created. He has been very consistent with his records and it seems he just keeps raising the bar on his creativity.
