I wanted to add my story to the loss of Jerry Miller and how it has impacted the future. Lately over the last few months, I have been working with a man named Norman Evans. He has been managing Don Stevenson who was the drummer for Moby Grape.
The reason for this story is an important one, because they have been putting together a plan to create a reunion for Moby Grape and to give them the recognition they should have in the history of Rock and Roll.
I have been a lucky bystander watching Don Stevenson walk back into the spotlight and begin with renewed vigor to reinvent his career again.
I first saw him last year as one of the many great faces at Massey Hall, when they recreated the 45th anniversary of the Last Waltz. He came on stage and got to perform a Bob Dylan part that really pleased the crowd.
Just recently I had the opportunity to review his new CD call Limited Engagement Vol1, for our magazine. (Click on the CD Review Button and go back a bit, to read it.)
If you are wondering, there will be a Vol 2 in the works.
Just last month, he was invited on stage at Hugh’s Room, to do two Moby Grape songs with an amazing California Band called Mrs. Henry. This was the band that organized the Last Waltz show.
Don Stevenson is now gaining popularity in Toronto with his appearances. Next on the agenda was to take footage of his performances and begin to campaign for a major Moby Grape reunion.
Now with the passing of Jerry Miller, it now seems more important to reunite the founding members and have both the older and newer generation appreciate the contribution this band has given us over 50 years ago.
If you remember Moby Grape, please leave your comment on this page so I can forward them to the people that can keep this reunion on track.
Let’s continue to enjoy these great musicians and the memorable songs they wrote while they are still with us.
