Triple Bill
Toronto got to witness a pretty sweet triple bill at the Garrison. AMMO is our local Metal Band that started the fire. Thunderor is also a Toronto band that came crashing down hard on us. Burning Witches heated the place up all the way from Switzerland. This was three distinct Metal bands colliding to create an explosion of Power Metal that hit you from all sides. This was truly a night for metal fans as they lined up down the street and waited for the doors to open as they crushed their way to the front of the stage.
AMMO
There were no Hello Toronto; no, we are here to rock you tonight. They hit the stage like a jackhammer straight to the head and pounded you like a 98-pound weakling. The lead singer pierced the crowd with his high vocals and started immediately got the crowd chanting Hey,Hey, Hey!
AMMO has been active in our city since 2014 and have made their distinct mark in the Toronto music scene.
For me, it was the third song that grabbed my attention. It is such a cool title for a song- “Street Metal Werewolves”. They tore through that song like a fresh piece of meat.
Even though Ammo had a short set to heat things up, they finished strong with what should be their anthem- “Too Metal for Metal”. It really has that classic 80’s power metal theme. The temperature of the room went up after that song.

Thunderor
With an epic Synth opening sound, Thunderor walked on with a strong tribal beat and then exploded into that classic 80’s style music with “Fire it up”. This was another band that has those fantastic high operatic vocals that just pierced you like a jagged dagger. What made this even cooler was those vocals belonged to the drummer JJ Tartaglia. It can’t be easy shrieking your way through a song while you are double kicking your way through the jams.
What made this a true celebration for the band was that this was their album release party. This is the sophomore release with “Bleed for it”. They played four songs off their brand-new release and I will share their site where you can listen to it.
This band knows how to get a crowd into their heavy metal happy place. The drummer even dabbles playing the synthesizer. The band bordered between Power Metal and some hair metal but without the glam.
Halfway through their set, they invited up a fiddler named Zoe. This was a new twist to the show. I quickly understood why she was there. They brought a piece of our east coast to our fair city with the super fun song called, “Cape Breton Home”. Did they just invent the Heavy Metal Jig?
Most of the audience are true Metal veterans that actually remember the 80’s. Now a little bit older and less hair, it was fun watching a bunch of headbangers getting whiplash due to the lack of hair they have now.
Like all those earlier metal bands, they do have a theme song called Thunderor. I thought this was going to be the last song, but they let the crowd know this is “How we roll”. Now they have two great albums to add to your collection.
Thunderor definitely picked up some older fans and hopefully revived that classic sound so the younger crowd could have something to rock out to.

Burning Witches
Like a pounding migraine, were here to absolutely burn down the Garrison. This really was a night of high shrieking vocals. In fact, they sounded like they were screaming for vengeance. The band was dressed in tight fashionable leather, and the place was as hot as a locker room filled with teenage boys after a hard football game. Their set was rock solid hard as they rarely ever stopped their high-octane performance. Even in her platform boots, singer, Laura Guldemond was kicking it up high and getting in our faces throughout the show. This was Power Metal with claws!
This was a band that was out to prove their worth. Whenever they felt strong, they made sure we were chanting Hey,Hey,Hey every chance she had. The band was out to dominate the night. It made sense since this was the first time they ever came to Canada and Toronto.
Toronto felt the same way. They made sure that this band was welcomed and loved so they would make their way back in the future. It is so tough for bands to cross the pond to gather new fans these days. Burning Witches made sure they put a spell on you so they could return.
Their setlist was filled with strong songs like, “Inquisition”, “The Dark Tower” and “Hexenhammer”.
The moment that I personally loved was when they asked us to pull out our lighters for a ballad type song. I don’t remember the last time I pulled out my lighter for a song. I was becoming that teenaged kid again.
Soon after that they went into song, “Wings of Steel that began a real mosh pit. There were a few bruises created this night.
When we got to the end, they also pulled that classic 80’s metal anthem by finishing their showoff with their theme song, “Burning Witches”.
Toronto was the final stop on their 2026 tour, and the band couldn’t look happier. They came, they rocked and they conquered.
