Alkaloid- Bach out of Bounds

Alkaloid is a super group consisting of members from Obscura, Triptykon and Dark Fortress. They have released a live album that breaks open new territories in music. With the concept of creating a space odyssey with forms of classical music mixed with Progressive and Death Metal, Alkaloid uses the entire universe to create a storyline that runs the gambit of both time and space.

The opening is an opus of varying musical techniques woven together to forge a tale that will traverse the history of the universe.

With each song comes the opportunity to add chapters to a place of unlimited ideas. A song like “Adagio” starts off haunted and quickly turns into a fever dream. The sounds of sirens wailing envelop your drifting mind to shoot you further away from reality into a tales that always haunted people like HP Lovecraft and other believers of alternate realities.

Alkaloid music is both elegant and brutal and like a great river is always bending and twisting in search of bigger ideas.

By the time we get to the song- “Cthulhu” we enter into a dark dimension with a mad God who is here to teach morbid lessons.

As we crisscross through these realms, we become the “Haunter of the Void”. This becomes somewhat of an operatic mystery in the voyage through dark matter.

What this band is looking to accomplish is a balance of cutting-edge ideas that do not cross the line of being too complex. If it was too complex, it could alienate a lot of future listeners. Instead, it intrigues the listener to delve even deeper. Their music is intriguing enough to open up your curiosity and to keep exploring all the richness of exploring new ideas.

This is a gateway album that really invites new and open listeners to the dominion of new possibilities in music.

When you get to the final song, “The Fungi from Yoggoth”, that HP Lovecraft theme really hits home with an absolutely epic piece of music. This is pure dessert for the mind as the fungi takes over the universe. By the end of this piece of music where they throw everything at you, you can’t help but understand there is still plenty of territory to explore and it is only limited to your imagination. Alkaloid has the power of the Fungi to expand their horizons and hopefully we will see more music like this expanding our consciousness.
