A Dystopian Future

Recently, Blast Toronto signed on Bar Dystopia on to our directory. We are creating a way to get live music shows in one musical hub, so when you decide to go out, you will have plenty of choice.

Dystopia has been doing karaoke whenever there is no live music. But on this night, they hosted 5 live bands on one bill.

Carmen Toth

I thought the show was going to begin at 8pm, but Carmen went on at 7:15. I only caught her live for one song. So, I am sorry I was late; I will owe you one for the near future. I will promote future shows on my Events calendar.

Pretox

What can I say about a band that promotes a Pretox lifestyle? This is the warmup before the true toxicity kicks in, and then it’s off to Rehab for the Detox.  Yes, I did ask the band this question and this was their answer.

They are a straightforward hard rock outfit with some cool street cred. Once they started their second song, I knew this was going to be a hard partying band. Their drummer was bashing out a George of the Jungle rhythm, and the band was pushing a combination of Part punk and part 70’s riff rock. It has a level of intensity as well as a wave of fun.

The Bass player- Jessie Taynton was doing double duty this evening. Not only does she play in Pretox but she played the next set with The Truth Untold. She must have some James Brown blood in her system.

By the time they got to the last song, the tone got very fuzzy and had that “I had one too many drinks” moment. It’s like that moment you wake up with a nasty hangover, and you go into the bathroom to shave your tongue. This is how Pretox will greet you.

The Truth Untold

It has been two years since this band has played our fine city. That what we deserve because Rose Cora Perry is getting more attention in the United States. You have to go where your fans love you, and Toronto should be waking up to this Rocking chick! I am just sorry Butter Chicken couldn’t make it to the show. She would have been an instant fan!

Rose definitely has two sides to her. She can be a fun and open person who loves to connect with everyone. Then there is the tougher side to her, with songs like “Shatterproof” a song dedicated to strong women. Her new video, Excuses is a slight against a terrible relationship. She loved making the video, because she got to blow shit up!

Here is the link to her video.  VIDEO | Rose Cora Perry

You can learn more about Rose through my interview with her recently at- Rose Cora Perry and the Truth Untold – Blast Toronto

The bottom line is The Truth Untold rocked the hell out of Parkdale and she had fun doing it. That all you need to know, if you are going to see this band live.

Orbiting Deathray

Although I am a fan of Punk Rock, Ontario has cornered the market on this style of music, and a lot of bands get lost in the shuffle.  Orbiting Deathray started off this way when they got on stage, but with each song, I noticed the energy of the room ramping up. I asked one guy if he was from Australia because he was bouncing around the front of the stage like a kangaroo.  It urns this kangaroo is Polish. You can see what I mean with my video of this crazy evening.

Orbiting Deathray is fronted by Carmen North and is one of the better punk rock bands that I have seen in a while. This band comes off like a bunch of musicians who forgot to take their psychiatric medication. That energy transferred into the thirsty crowd, and they turned into a bunch of ravenous Vikings at a Norwegian Metal show.

I found their song Northern Fights to be a true onslaught of pure adrenaline and agitation. So, people of the Punk scene, I would highly recommend Orbiting Deathray to be on your list of the many punk acts to choose from.

Cruel Hope

Cruel hope self-promotes themselves as- Punk rock prophets of the apocalypse.

They just released their debut album,

The band came pounding on stage like hummer rolling over and over down a sand dune. They like to keep their sound fuzzy. Just picture something simple like a gassed-up lawnmower on Methane.

The crowd in the bar packed the place, because anyone who was showing up late was showing up to be bulldozed by this band. They flattened the crowd.

It was a little funny that the last song has more pop appeal to it after their fuzzy incursion tore down the tiny stage at Dystopia.

This is Cruel Hope being cruel:
